Race Venues & Running Start Lines in Colorado
Overview
About Race Venues & Running Start Lines
24 venues · 13 have hosted events on CUP
Every race needs a start line, and this page lists the Colorado parks, trail systems, tracks and event sites that host running events. Some are city parks with paved loops ideal for a 5K. Others are open space trailheads, reservoir paths or mountain venues that suit trail races and longer distances.
Running in Colorado happens in every season, but the calendar peaks from spring through fall. Summer mornings beat the heat, fall brings cool air and colorful courses, and winter races test runners on snow and ice. Altitude matters too: a race in a mountain town feels very different from one on the plains.
Use the venue pages to check course settings, parking and upcoming races. Race directors can list a race free on Colorado Under Par to reach runners across the state, from first-time 5K walkers to ultra regulars.

Frequently Asked Questions
What organizers ask before booking a venue.
Do I need a permit to hold a race in a Colorado park?
Usually yes, most cities and park districts require a special event permit. Contact the agency that manages the park well ahead of your date.
Are run-walk events friendly to beginners?
Yes, most 5K and fun run events welcome walkers and first-timers. Many have generous time limits.
How does altitude affect racing in Colorado?
Higher elevation means less oxygen, so expect slower paces at first. Hydrate well and arrive early if you can.
