Venue Overview

Monument Valley Park is a roughly two-mile linear park running along Monument Creek through central Colorado Springs, 153.4 acres developed and donated by city founder William Jackson Palmer and opened in 1907. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For pickleball players, it is simply the biggest free option in the city: fifteen lighted courts, no reservations, no fee, on the City's own inventory.

About the Courts

Fifteen outdoor pickleball courts, lighted for nighttime play. The City lists Monument Valley Park under pickleball courts and does not list it under tennis courts, which supports these being dedicated pickleball rather than dual-striped. For comparison, the City's other pickleball sites are Mid Shooks Run Park with two courts and John Venezia Community Park with eight. Surface is an acrylic-coated hard court; the City's 2023 maintenance release describes contractors cleaning the surface, patching cracks, correcting drainage and resealing with acrylic surfacing.

Check the Flag Before You Drive Over

The City runs a published closure protocol worth knowing about. A green flag in the parking lot means the courts are open; a red flag means closed. There is also a Court Notification System recorded line at 719-385-2149, updated by 10:00 AM daily. During weather events, staff assess snow and ice levels, and unauthorized snow or ice removal by players is prohibited. There is no fixed seasonal closure.

Lessons & Instruction

The City does not publish pickleball programming for this site and no coaches are named. The Pikes Peak Pickleball Association has historically run free introductory lessons, guided play, round robin and ladder league play here, and states that it provides funding in support of the fifteen-court lighted facility. PeakRadar currently lists the association as inactive, so confirm before planning around its schedule.

Leagues & Events

The Colorado Open, also billed as Pikes Peak or Bust, is a US Senior Pickleball circuit event presented by the Pikes Peak Pickleball Association with men's and women's singles and doubles, mixed, and wheelchair doubles, singles and hybrid divisions, with free spectator admission. Confirm the venue before planning a trip around it: the 2024 edition was cancelled, and the 2026 edition is listed at the Peak Pickleball facility rather than here.
