Venue Overview

Memorial Park Tennis Center sits inside Memorial Park at 1605 E Pikes Peak Ave in Colorado Springs, and the City calls it the main tennis facility and the hub of tennis activities for the whole system. The City publishes a separate mailing address for the center itself, 1315 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Springs Tennis runs programming under contract with the City, at (719) 385-6023 or Marc@SpringsTennis.com. Park hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. from November 1 through April 30, and 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. from May 1 through October 31.

About the Courts

Twelve outdoor tennis courts, per the City’s Memorial Park page. Worth flagging that the City’s Parks department publishes a higher figure of fifteen on its separate Tennis and Pickleball page, and the contracted operator, Springs Tennis, also works from fifteen; we have gone with the lower, more conservative count. Lighting is likewise disputed, with the Parks page saying eleven courts are lit and Springs Tennis saying all of them are. Surface type is never stated by either party, so we do not list one. There is no pickleball at Memorial; the City’s pickleball list leaves it off.

Free, First-Come, and the Biggest Municipal Footprint in the Springs

The practical appeal here is simple. It is the largest public tennis complex in Colorado Springs, it costs nothing to play, and you do not need a reservation. That combination is rare. Show up, take an open court, and if the lights matter to your plan, call ahead, since the City and its operator do not agree on how many courts are lit. The City’s Tennis and Pickleball page also still carries stale 2019 season content, so treat program dates there with the same caution.

Lessons & Instruction

Springs Tennis handles all instruction. Juniors get weekly summer classes Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays across five sessions from June through August, weekend classes, tiers A through D at a six to one ratio, after school sessions, Play Days, and USTA Junior Team Tennis for ages 13 to 18. Free in-school clinics run through an exclusive School District 11 partnership, with need-based scholarships covering 50 to 100 percent. Adults get Cardio Tennis, Open Drill, NTRP-graded drills at 3.0 through 4.5 plus, J&T Drills, private lessons and Tennis in No Time. Marc Knutila is Director of Tennis, a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional, owner of Springs Tennis LLC and a USTA Colorado board member. Ilona Wilson is the named Open Drill instructor. Springs Tennis says it carried 15 coaches in 2025 but publishes no other names.

Leagues & Events

The signature event is Rocky Mountain State Games tennis, an annual USTA-sanctioned outdoor tournament run by the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, with 2026 dates of July 15 through 19. Divisions cover juniors 12U through 18U, adult NTRP 2.5 to 5.0 plus Open, seniors from 65-69 through 90 and over, and Parent/Child Doubles, capped at 32 entries per draw. Springs Tennis also runs roughly 30 Friday night meetups a year, reserving all courts, capped at the first 60 RSVPs and drawing more than 1,200 attendances annually.
