How to Plan a Charity Golf Tournament: 10 Steps

What the video covers

Planning a charity golf tournament? Here is the ten step plan Colorado Under Par follows, after eight years of running golf events.

Start early

Start six to twelve months out. Good courses book their best weekdays a year ahead, and sponsors set budgets months before your date. Set two numbers first: how much you want to raise, and how many golfers you can fill. Then build a small committee: a chair, operations, sponsorships, marketing and golfer relations.

Course and budget

Pick the date and course. Mondays are often the easiest day to book a full outing. For 18 holes with a shotgun start, plan on 120 to 144 golfers. List every cost, divide by your expected golfers, and price your entry above that, so sponsors and games become your profit.

Format and sponsors

Most charity events play a four person scramble with a shotgun start, so every skill level plays and everyone finishes together. Then sell sponsorships early, from title sponsor down to hole sponsors, and send your packet four to six months out.

Games, registration, the day

Add contests, mulligans, raffles and a silent auction. Take registration online and promote for at least eight weeks. Run the day from a written run of show, then within a week finalize the money, thank everyone and book next year.

CUP tools

Every step has a free tool on CUP: a starter plan with venues and a month by month timeline, a budget planner, suggested sponsor levels, and a print ready day of kit. List your event free on Colorado Under Par, or build registration in Sell Tickets: free to build, 1% per paid order plus card processing. Find the full guide at coloradounderpar.com/resource-hub.
