The East Course

The East Course is The Broadmoor's championship crown jewel, an 18-hole, par-72 layout combining nine original Donald Ross holes from 1918 with nine added by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and later restored by Ron Forse. Playing to 7,355 yards at over 6,400 feet, it is famous for wide, tree-lined fairways, expansive greens, and mountain-influenced contours that create optical illusions, the local wisdom is that putts break away from the mountains. The West Course

The West Course is the East's spectacular sibling, an 18-hole, par-71 layout that follows the same heritage formula, original 1918 Donald Ross holes near the hotel joined by Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s 1964 upland additions. Playing to roughly 7,016 yards, it climbs higher onto Cheyenne Mountain, with more doglegs, more elevation changes, and steeply-angled greens, rewarding players with some of the finest views on the property. A Course With History

Few clubs anywhere can match The Broadmoor's history. When Spencer Penrose set out to build a world-class resort in 1918, he hired the era's finest architect, Donald Ross, whose original 18 holes here he considered his best work, an astonishing statement given his previous project was Pinehurst No. 2. When it opened, The Broadmoor was the highest golf course in the United States at 6,400 feet. Robert Trent Jones Sr. expanded the club into 36 holes across the 1950s and '60s, and a lineage of legendary head professionals followed, among them Ed Dudley, who split his time with Augusta National and taught President Eisenhower, Bing Crosby, and Bob Hope, and Dow Finsterwald, the 1958 PGA Champion who served here for 28 years. Presidents, celebrities, and the greatest names in golf have all teed it up at The Broadmoor, where a 19-year-old Jack Nicklaus won his first U.S. Amateur in 1959.

The Playing Experience

The West plays tighter and climbs higher up Cheyenne Mountain, with more doglegs and dramatic elevation changes that deliver the property's best views.
