Venue Overview
Sunset Golf Course is a City of Longmont municipal golf course tucked into historic old Longmont, offering one of the most scenic nine-hole rounds in Colorado. Framed by mature, tree-lined fairways and sweeping views of Longs Peak, Sunset has been part of the fabric of the Longmont community for more than a century, making it one of the oldest continuously operated golf courses on the Front Range.About the Course
Sunset traces its roots to August 1922, when a group of local golfers organized the private Longmont Golf Club and leased 40 acres of farmland from the City near Sunset Park, later purchasing additional land north of what is now Longs Peak Avenue to complete the layout. A city committee that included Jacob Schey helped shape the course's early design, and on November 22, 1922, City Council approved the Longmont Golf Club name and set a $1 daily green fee. The nine-hole course was redesigned and lengthened in 1929, and it weathered the Depression and World War II years, when membership dues dropped from $3 to $1 and Defense Stamps were awarded as tournament prizes. A new clubhouse replaced the original in 1966, and the course has operated as a public City of Longmont facility ever since, now one of three courses in the Golf Longmont system alongside Twin Peaks and Ute Creek.- Nine-hole layout with multiple tee options, from 5,436 yards (red tees, 70.8/126) to 5,966 yards (blue tees, 73.8/131)
- Tree-lined fairways and panoramic views of Longs Peak and the Front Range
- Founded in 1922 as the Longmont Golf Club; redesigned and lengthened in 1929
- Clubhouse rebuilt in 1966; the course celebrated its 100-year anniversary as a Longmont institution
- Course record of 61 (playing the nine holes twice) set by Dave Schey, grandson of founding committee member Jacob Schey, during the 1991 City Championship
- Part of the City of Longmont's three-course municipal golf system, alongside Twin Peaks and Ute Creek golf courses
