Step by step
Running a sport we don't list in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Any sport not listed elsewhere, run as a charity, amateur or rec event at a park, gym, field or community center. Many groups host these on weekends in spring through fall, with indoor options in winter.
Formats
- Individual
- Each person competes on their own.
- Doubles / Pairs
- Entrants compete in teams of two.
- Team
- Groups of players compete together as one side.
- Single Elimination
- A bracket where losing one match knocks you out.
- Double Elimination
- A bracket where you are out after two losses.
- Round Robin
- Everyone plays everyone else in their group once.
- Pool Play + Bracket
- Entrants are split into small groups that play round robin first.
- Timed / Race
- Entrants race a set course or task against the clock.
- Judged / Scored
- Judges score each performance using a set rubric.
- Distance / Endurance
- Entrants go as far or as long as they can, or complete a long set distance.
- Beat the Local Pro
- A coach or standout athlete takes on all comers in one simple skill. Players donate to try, and anyone who wins gets a prize and bragging rights.
- Mystery Envelope Raffle
- Sell sealed envelopes at one price, each hiding a prize of different value, and watch the surprise sell them out. A Colorado raffle license may be needed.
- Traveling Trophy Tradition
- The winners take home a trophy with their name added each year and must bring it back. Add a silly gag award for the best effort of the day.
Build it
In the Organizer Dashboard, click Create event and pick Other, name your sport and pick your format. Every tab, word and Start here guide then follows your sport.
Registration
Ask for name, age group, experience level, team or partner name if needed, a t-shirt size, an emergency contact and a signed waiver.
Results
Pick the results tool that fits: Bibs, timing and results for timed events, Brackets and schedule for matches, or Scores and results for judged or total scores. Clinics and social play need no results at all.
Event day
Entrants check in and get any bibs or wristbands, warm up, hear a short rules briefing, compete in scheduled rounds, then gather for results and awards.
