Step by step
Running a wrestling event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Colorado amateur wrestling ranges from youth club tournaments to high school and adult open events, held in school gyms on several mats, mostly in winter with freestyle and Greco events in spring.
Formats
- Folkstyle (Scholastic)
- The US school style, focused on control and riding time with three periods.
- Freestyle
- An international style where wrestlers can attack the legs.
- Greco-Roman
- An international style with no holds below the waist.
- Dual Meet
- Two teams face off with one wrestler per weight class.
- Bracket Tournament
- Wrestlers are seeded into brackets by age and weight, often with consolation rounds for places.
- Beach Wrestling
- Standing wrestling in a sand circle with short matches.
- Fastest Pin Award
- Track the quickest pin in each age group across the event. Winners get a special medal, decided by referees under normal rules.
- Pledge Per Point
- Wrestlers collect pledges for each point or win during the tournament. Families love following the total match by match.
- Outstanding Wrestler Award
- Coaches vote on the most outstanding wrestler of the day. Add a sportsmanship award for the athlete who showed the most respect.
Build it
In the Organizer Dashboard, click Create event and pick wrestling and your format. Every tab, word and Start here guide then follows your sport.
Registration
Choose your team size and divisions, like youth, cadet and junior. In Registration, ask what you need from each entrant, like weight for weigh-in and club, gym or team you represent.
Results
Open Brackets and schedule. Pick the division, pool play or a bracket, your mats, the first game time and minutes per game. Each of your mats gets its own phone link for scores, and every score updates the bracket for everyone. Tick Post on the event page so players follow it live.
Event day
Wrestlers check in, weigh in and pass a skin check, brackets are posted, matches run on assigned mats in rounds, then placers stand on the podium for awards. For weigh-ins, Check-in has a scale weight box under each competitor: green means they make their class, red shows how far over.
