Step by step
Running a water polo event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Water polo events in Colorado are club and masters tournaments held year round in indoor pools, with youth, high school and adult players.
Formats
- Standard (7v7)
- Six field players and a goalkeeper per side in deep water, playing four timed quarters.
- Coed / Mixed
- Teams include both men and women, often with a minimum number of each in the water.
- Masters
- Adult players grouped by age, often 30 and older, playing standard rules with friendly, experienced competition.
- Tournament Bracket
- Teams are seeded into a bracket after pool games, then winners advance through knockout games to a championship.
- Open / Rec Division
- A division for newer and casual players, often with modified rules, shorter games and a focus on fun.
- League
- Teams play scheduled games over a season, with standings leading to a final tournament.
- Corner Target Shots
- Hang targets in the corners of the goal and award points for each hit. Players and fans can try between games.
- Pledge Per Goal
- Supporters pledge a set amount for every goal their team scores. Each goal raises money and pumps up the pool deck.
- Cap Signing Tradition
- The winning team signs a cap that goes in a display case each year. Returning players love finding their names from past seasons.

Registration
In Registration, ask what you need from each entrant, like jersey number. Set a roster minimum and a roster lock date, and split team fees into two to four payments in Invoices if that helps teams sign up.
