Venue Overview

Valley Country Club is a private, family-oriented country club in Centennial, Colorado, founded in 1954 along Cherry Creek. Framed by mature trees, rolling fairways, and Front Range views, Valley pairs a championship golf course with a resort-style pool, tennis and pickleball complex, and dedicated events team, and has hosted the Colorado Women’s Open and numerous USGA, PGA Colorado Section, and Colorado Golf Association championships over its seven-decade history.

About the Club

Valley Country Club was founded in late 1954 when Dr. George H. Gillen and a group of friends began assembling 189.46 acres along Cherry Creek to build a private golf club. The front nine opened for play on August 1, 1956, with J.D. Taylor hired that fall as Valley’s first Golf Professional; the back nine followed in 1960, completing a full 18-hole championship course. A 2021 “Amenities Project” delivered a new resort-style pool, fitness center, tennis pavilion, and pickleball courts, completed in phases through 2024.

A Championship Golf History

Valley has hosted competitive golf since 1960, when it staged the Colorado State Junior Championship. Over the following decades the club hosted the Colorado State Stroke Play Championships (1961-1979), Colorado State Match Play Championships (1963 and 1970), USGA Junior Qualifying (1967 and 1972), USGA Open Qualifying (1981), USGA Mid-Amateur Qualifying (1982), and the PGA Colorado Section Championship, among many others. From 1997 to 2003, Valley hosted the Colorado Women’s Open. Since 1979, the club’s own signature tournament, the Birdie Bash, has run as a fully subscribed four-day event that regularly carries a multi-year waitlist.

Valley’s tennis program has been led since 1997 by Diana Selke, the first woman in the Intermountain Division to earn USPTA Master Professional distinction, who built Valley’s tennis program from the ground up.

Tournaments & Events

Valley’s championship pedigree spans more than six decades of USGA, PGA Colorado Section, and Colorado Golf Association competition, and the club’s own Birdie Bash has run as a signature four-day member tournament since 1979. Beyond golf, Valley’s dedicated events team plans corporate gatherings, weddings, and private celebrations, working with members and their guests to design each event’s space, cuisine, and details.
