Venue Overview

Rouse Park is a public park in Cañon City with six outdoor pickleball courts, lighted baseball and softball fields, a basketball court and two pavilions, run by the Cañon City Area Metropolitan Recreation and Park District. It sits on Park Avenue in central Cañon City, a few blocks from US 50 and the Royal Gorge corridor. Its pickleball courts are home to the Canon City Pickleball Classic each May, and its ball fields carry recreation leagues, Canon City High School games and traveling team tournaments nine to ten months a year, making it one of the most used parks in the district.

About the Park

  • Six outdoor pickleball courts, converted from the old tennis courts
  • Baseball and softball fields with upgraded lighting
  • Batting cage
  • Open west end used for football and soccer practices and games
  • Basketball court, rebuilt in 2014
  • Playground with equipment replaced in 2020
  • Two reservable pavilions near the playground

History

  • Rouse Park was the first park owned and operated by the Recreation District.
  • 2014: the basketball court was reconstructed.
  • 2016: the cracked old tennis courts were rebuilt as six pickleball courts after local player Peg Davison asked the district to revamp them, opening in November 2016.
  • 2020: a Great Outdoors Colorado grant replaced the playground equipment.
  • 2022 to 2023: a major improvement project upgraded the lighting and ball fields.

Outdoor Pickleball in Cañon City

The six Rouse Park courts are the hub of Cañon City pickleball, used for open play, recreation programs and tournaments. When they opened in 2016 the town already counted nearly 100 pickleball players, and the district has since partnered with the Canon City Pickleball Association on its annual spring tournament. The courts are outdoors and open dawn to dusk, so plan play around weather and daylight.

Events Held Here

  • Canon City Pickleball Classic: each May, run with the Canon City Pickleball Association; the 2025 edition was held May 23 and 24.
  • Baseball and softball tournaments: several tournaments each year, plus recreation leagues, Canon City High School games and traveling teams.
  • Football and soccer: practices and games on the west end.
  • Pavilion gatherings: parties, weddings and other functions.

Upcoming events at this venue are listed below.

Lessons, Coaching & Programs

The Cañon City Area Metropolitan Recreation and Park District runs youth and adult recreation programs that use the Rouse Park fields and courts, including adult softball. The district does not publish named pickleball instructors for the park as of 2026, so check with the district and the Canon City Pickleball Association for clinics.

Six courts suit a one-day round robin or a bracketed tournament, with a pavilion for check-in, food and awards. Ball field tournaments should be booked early, since fields are in use most of the year. Outdoor play depends on weather and daylight, so set a rain plan. Contact the venue for current pricing and availability.

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are open now. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.
