Venue Overview

CommonGround Golf Course is a public, Tom Doak-designed course in Aurora, Colorado, owned and operated by the Colorado Golf Association. Opened in 2009 and built on a "width that matters" design philosophy, CommonGround has become one of the state's premier tournament venues, hosting USGA qualifying rounds and championships alongside its role as the CGA's home course.

About the Course

CommonGround was designed by acclaimed architect Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design specifically for the Colorado Golf Association, with a stated mission "to provide everyone in the state with a first-class environment in which to comfortably learn, enjoy, and support this amazing game and all that it offers." Despite sitting in the heart of the city, the course is designed so the surrounding urban sprawl disappears, leaving open views of the Front Range. The course is easy to walk and built to reward strategic play at every skill level.

A Proven USGA Championship Venue

CommonGround has built one of the strongest championship resumes of any public course in Colorado. It served as the companion stroke-play qualifying course to Cherry Hills Country Club for the 2012 U.S. Amateur, hosted the Women's Amateur Public Links in 2014, served as the second stroke-play course for the 2019 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, and was a stroke-play co-host for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The course also regularly hosts U.S. Amateur qualifying rounds and numerous state and local championships.

Lessons & Instruction

CommonGround's instruction is provided exclusively through ExperienceGolf, whose teaching staff, as of 2026, includes:

• Elena King, LPGA Class A, Director of Instruction — founder of ExperienceGolf, a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Instructor who has coached the World University Games Women's Team USA and earned multiple LPGA Teacher of the Year and Golf Digest Best in State honors
• Stefanie Ferguson, LPGA and PGA Class A — Women's Head Golf Coach at Metro State University and a Colorado AvidGolfer "Best Instructor for Women" honoree, who qualified for the 2013 LPGA Championship
• Miles Hains, PGA Class A
• Chris Shank — former Head Coach of the Mount Mercy University women's golf team and 2024 Heart of America Conference Women's Golf Coach of the Year

CommonGround's USGA championship history and CGA ownership make it one of the most credentialed tournament venues among Colorado's public courses. The course is a proven site for local and state championships and continues to host qualifying events for national USGA competitions.
