Every way to run a powerlifting event
Colorado strength meets are held at gyms and training centers year round, for beginners through experienced lifters, grouped by weight class, age and gender.
Full Powerlifting
Lifters get three attempts each on squat, bench press and deadlift. The best lift of each is added for a total, and highest total in each class wins.
Bench Only
Lifters get three bench press attempts, and the heaviest good lift counts. Winners are ranked by weight class.
Deadlift Only
Lifters get three deadlift attempts, and their heaviest good lift is their score. Good for first-time competitors.
Push-Pull
Lifters do bench press and deadlift, three attempts each. Best lifts add for a total that ranks each class.
Olympic Weightlifting
Lifters get three attempts each on the snatch and clean and jerk. Best of each adds into a total, and highest total wins.
Strongman
Athletes compete in events like log press, farmers carry, yoke and stone loading. Points are awarded by placing in each event, and most points wins.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches teach technique, safe setup and how meets work, then lifters practice with feedback. Group by experience.
Social or open play
Casual lift-a-thons or mock meets with no official scoring. Lifters try lifts with spotters and cheer each other on.
Make it memorable
Fun powerlifting event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Max Rep Challenge
Lifters do as many reps as possible at a set light weight, judged for good form. Spotters stay ready on every set.
Plank Hold Contest
Anyone can join a plank hold, and the last one up wins. It gives spectators and lifters a shared challenge.
Pledge Per Pound
Lifters collect pledges for every pound of their best total. Friends follow along as each lift counts.
Sponsor a Platform
Businesses sponsor each lifting platform with signs and shout outs. Every lift on that platform promotes them.
Superhero Lift Day
Lifters can wear capes or themed singlets for fun. Award the best costume that still meets safety rules.
Sponsored Chalk Station
A sponsor hosts the chalk and warm up station with snacks and water. Lifters stop there before every attempt.
Kids Broomstick Lift
Coaches teach kids basic lifting form with broomsticks or light dowels. Families cheer as kids show off their skills.
Best Lifter Trophy
Award a trophy for the best lifter by bodyweight formula. Add a gag prize for the loudest grunt of the day.
