Every way to run a skate event
Colorado skate and BMX events take place at city skate parks and bike parks from spring through fall, with kids, teens and adults competing by age and skill level.
Skateboard Street
Skaters ride a course of ledges, rails, stairs and banks, doing tricks during a timed run. Judges score difficulty, style and consistency.
Skateboard Park
Skaters flow through a park of ramps, quarter pipes and transitions in timed runs. Judges score tricks, speed and use of the whole park.
BMX Park / Street
Riders perform tricks on park ramps or street features during timed runs. Judges score difficulty, variety, height and style.
Bowl / Vert
Skaters or riders carve a deep bowl or vert ramp and do airs and lip tricks. Judges score each run, and the best run usually counts.
BMX Dirt Jump
Riders take a line of packed dirt jumps and do tricks in the air. Judges score height, difficulty and smooth landings.
Best Trick
Riders pick one feature and try their hardest trick within a time window. Judges award the single best landed trick.
Game of S.K.A.T.E.
Two skaters take turns setting tricks on flat ground. Missing a trick the other landed earns a letter, and spelling S.K.A.T.E. means you are out.
BMX Flatland
Riders balance and spin the bike on smooth flat ground with no ramps. Judges score creativity, difficulty and flow of a timed routine.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches teach safety gear, basic riding, dropping in and beginner tricks by level, usually at a skate or bike park.
Social or open play
An open session where skaters and riders take turns on features, with no judging or prizes.
Make it memorable
Fun skate event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Best Trick Contest
Riders and skaters get a set time to land their best trick on one feature, and the crowd helps judge. Fast and exciting.
Longest Manual Challenge
Riders see who can hold a manual the longest across a flat section. Easy to run and fun for every level.
Sponsor a Ramp
Local shops or families sponsor a ramp or rail with a banner and named award. Clear and easy to explain.
Deck Art Auction
Local artists paint blank skate decks, and the decks are auctioned at the event. Great for community art and fundraising.
Throwback Style Day
Riders dress in retro outfits and play old school music for a session. A best style prize keeps it fun.
Sponsor Helmet Check
A sponsor runs a free helmet and pad check booth with safety tips and giveaways. Safety and visibility in one.
Kids First Drop In
Young riders try their first drop in on a small ramp with a coach. Parents film it and kids remember it.
Golden Wheel Trophy
Winners get a painted wheel or sprocket trophy, and the best slam gets a gag prize. Pose both with the crowd for a photo.
