Every way to run a lacrosse event
Colorado amateur lacrosse includes youth club and rec tournaments, high school summer play and adult leagues, mostly on turf fields in spring and summer and indoor rinks for box play.
7v7
A smaller-sided field game with seven players per team on a shorter field, giving more touches and faster play. It is common for summer and youth tournaments.
Full Field (10v10 / 12v12)
The standard game, with ten players per side for boys and men and twelve for girls and women. Teams play timed halves or quarters with officials.
Box Lacrosse (6v6)
Played in an enclosed indoor rink or box with six per side and a shot clock. Games are fast and physical, played in timed periods.
Sixes (6v6)
A fast outdoor small-field game with six per side, a shot clock and short timed periods. Teams change players often on the fly.
3v3
Three players per side on a very small field with small goals and no goalies or with small nets. Games are short, fast and high scoring.
Round Robin + Playoffs
Teams play each opponent in their pool, then the top teams by record move into playoff games to decide the champion.
Tournament Bracket
Teams are seeded into an elimination bracket and advance by winning games until one team takes the championship.
League
Teams play a weekly schedule over a season, with standings by wins and losses and often a playoff at the end.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches run stations on cradling, passing, catching, shooting and defense, often split by age and position.
Social or open play
Casual pickup games where players show up, split teams and play without standings or officials.
Make it memorable
Fun lacrosse event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Fastest Shot Radar
Players take shots at an open net while a radar gun clocks speed. Post the leaderboard and crown speed winners by age group.
Corner Target Shootout
Targets hang in the four net corners, and shooters earn points for each one they hit. A big draw between games.
Pledge Per Goal Drive
Supporters pledge a set amount for every goal scored across the tournament. The announcer calls out the total after each match.
Sponsor a Stick Raffle
Families buy tickets for a chance to win a new stick or gear package donated by a sponsor. A Colorado raffle license may be needed.
Throwback Jersey Day
Teams wear retro or homemade throwback jerseys, and spectators vote for the best look at halftime. Great photos and an easy laugh for everyone.
Sponsor Goal Banner
A sponsor's banner hangs behind the main field goal, and each goal gets a shout out with their name. Simple and visible.
Little Lax Clinic
Young kids try soft sticks and balls in a free mini clinic between games. A great way to grow the sport locally.
Golden Stick Award
The tournament standout gets a gold painted stick trophy with their name added each year. Shoot the photo in front of the goal.
