Tournament
A one-time event, usually one day, sometimes a weekend. Players or teams sign up once, play the event and finish with results and awards. In Colorado many tournaments raise money for a cause, with sponsors, prizes and a social hour.

Every way to run a dodgeball event
Colorado dodgeball events are mostly adult rec leagues and charity tournaments held in school or rec center gyms, played year round by coworker, friend and social teams.
6v6 (Standard)
Six players per side try to hit opponents with thrown balls or catch throws to get them out. A team wins a game by eliminating all opponents.
Pool Play + Bracket
Teams play short matches in pools for seeding, then the top teams move into an elimination bracket for the championship.
Round Robin
Every team plays every other team in its group. Matches usually last a set time, and total games won decides the standings.
Single Elimination
Teams are seeded into a bracket and a match loss ends their run. Winners advance until one team takes the final.
Double Elimination
Teams are out only after two match losses. First losses drop to a back bracket, whose winner meets the main bracket champion.
No-Sting / Foam
Uses soft foam or no-sting balls so it is safe for kids, families and beginners. Rules match standard play, with gentler hits.
League
Teams play a weekly match night over a season, with standings by match wins and a playoff to crown a champion.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches teach throwing, catching, dodging and team strategy through drills and short practice games, often for kids or new teams.
Social or open play
Players show up, split into random teams and play casual games with rotating teams and no standings.

Fun dodgeball event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Last One Standing
Every player enters a giant free-for-all, and the final player standing wins a prize. A loud, fun way to close the night.
Catch Streak Challenge
Players try to catch as many soft throws in a row as possible from a volunteer. Longest catch streak wins bragging rights.
Buy Back In Tickets
Players buy a few re-entry passes before games, letting them return after being out. All money goes to the cause and teams love the strategy.
Pay to Pelt the Principal
Donors pay to throw soft foam balls at a principal, coach or local leader who volunteers. Huge fundraiser energy and great for schools.
Retro Gym Class Theme
Teams dress in headbands, tube socks and short shorts, with throwback music playing. Best costume team wins a trophy.
Sponsor Team Jerseys
A sponsor provides team shirts with its logo, and teams wear them in the photo wall shot. Easy, visible and useful.
Family Foam Round
A short round lets parents and kids play together with extra soft balls and simple rules. A big laugh and safe for all ages.
Golden Dodgeball Trophy
Champions win a spray painted gold dodgeball, and the most dramatic out gets an acting award. Both make great social photos.
