Every way to run a disc golf event
Disc golf events in Colorado are year-round amateur tournaments, charity events and weekly club gatherings at public park courses, busiest spring through fall.
Singles (Stroke Play)
Each player throws their own disc and counts every throw. Lowest total wins, with divisions split by skill rating or age.
Best Shot Doubles (Scramble)
Both partners throw, the team picks the best throw and both play from there. Lowest team score wins. Very beginner friendly.
Doubles (Alternate Shot)
Partners share one disc and take turns throwing until it lands in the basket. Lowest team score wins.
Flex Start
Players start their round any time within a set window, such as morning to afternoon. They turn in scorecards when done.
Match Play
Players compete basket by basket, and whoever wins more baskets wins the match. Often run as a bracket.
Round Robin
Players or teams in a group each play one another in matches, and the best overall record wins the group.
League
A weekly club night where players play a round, often doubles or singles, earning points or winnings toward season standings.
Clinic, camp or lessons
An experienced player teaches throwing form, disc choice and putting, then players practice on the course.
Social or open play
A casual round where players form groups and play together with no official scoring.
Make it memorable
Fun disc golf event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Closest to the Basket
On one marked basket, the drive that lands closest wins a prize. Players of every skill level have a real shot at it.
Long Throw Contest
The longest drive that lands in the fairway wins. Measure with a long tape and mark the leader with a flag for everyone to chase.
Redo Throw Tickets
Players buy a few redo throws at check-in for a few dollars each. It raises easy money and takes the sting out of a bad throw.
Ace Pot
Each player chips in a couple of dollars at check-in. Anyone who hits an ace wins the pot, and if nobody does, it goes to the cause.
Glow Round Night
Play after dark with glowing discs and lights on every basket. It looks amazing and draws players who never come out for daytime events.
Sponsor Basket Stations
Sponsors set up at a basket with snacks, water and swag. Every group stops by, so sponsors meet players face to face.
Kids Putting Course
Set up a short course with mini targets near the start for kids and families. Everyone who finishes gets a small prize.
Tree Magnet Award
The player who hits the most trees takes home a gag trophy. Everyone has a story about it, and the photo always gets a laugh.
