Every way to run a billiards event
Pool events in Colorado are year-round bar and pool hall tournaments and leagues, with players of all levels, often handicapped to keep matches close.
8-Ball
Players pick solids or stripes, clear their group, then sink the 8-ball to win. Matches are races to a set number of games.
9-Ball
Players must hit the lowest numbered ball first, and sinking the 9-ball wins the game. Matches are races to a set number.
Scotch Doubles
Two partners alternate shots on the same table. Teams play 8-ball or 9-ball in a bracket.
Singles Bracket
One player against another in a single or double elimination bracket, often handicapped so all levels compete.
10-Ball
Like 9-ball with ten balls, and players must call their shots. The player who legally sinks the 10-ball wins.
Straight Pool (14.1)
Players call each ball and pocket, scoring a point per ball, and racks are reset as play goes on. First to a set score wins.
League
Teams or players meet weekly at the same venue, with handicaps and standings over a season.
Clinic, camp or lessons
An experienced player teaches stance, stroke, aiming and position play at the table.
Social or open play
Open tables for casual games with friends, no formal brackets.
Make it memorable
Fun billiards event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Trick Shot Contest
Players set up their best trick shots and the crowd votes on the winner. It is the most watched part of the night.
Off Hand Rack
Players shoot one rack using their non dominant hand. It levels the field and gets big laughs.
Ball in Hand Tokens
Players buy a token for one ball in hand during a match. It raises easy money and adds strategy to close games.
Fifty Fifty Raffle
Sell tickets all night, and one winner takes half the pot while the cause keeps the rest. A Colorado raffle license may be needed.
Vintage Pool Hall Night
Players dress in vests, flat caps and suspenders for a classic pool hall look. The best outfit wins a prize at the awards.
Sponsor a Table
A business sponsors a table with a sign and shout outs all night. Players gather around it, so the sponsor stays front and center.
Kids Mini Cue Clinic
Kids learn basic shots with short cues and a coach. It is safe, fun and gives families something to do together.
Scratch King Award
The player who scratches the most takes home a gag crown. It always gets laughs and makes a great photo.
