Every way to run a baseball event
Colorado amateur baseball ranges from youth rec leagues and travel tournaments to adult men's leagues, played on park and school diamonds from April through August.
Tee-ball
For ages 4 to 6, batters hit the ball off a stationary tee. Games are short, every child bats each inning, and score is usually not kept.
Coach-pitch
A coach from the batting team pitches softly to young hitters, usually ages 6 to 8. Innings often end after a set number of batters or outs.
Machine-pitch
A pitching machine throws steady pitches to young batters, usually ages 7 to 9, so every hitter sees the same speed. A coach feeds the machine.
Kid-pitch
Players pitch to each other under normal rules, usually from age 9 up. Organizers set pitch count limits and rest rules to protect young arms.
Single Elimination
Teams are seeded into a bracket and a loss ends a team's run. Winners advance round by round until one team wins the championship game.
Double Elimination
A team is out only after two losses. Losers drop to a second bracket, and the survivor plays the main bracket winner for the title.
Round Robin
Every team plays each other team once. Standings by wins, then tiebreakers like runs allowed, decide the final order.
Pool Play → Bracket
Teams play two or three pool games for seeding, then advance into an elimination bracket. This is the standard weekend youth tournament setup.
Home Run Derby
Each hitter gets a set number of outs or a time limit to hit as many home runs as possible. The most homers wins, with rounds to break ties.
League
Teams play a weekly schedule over a season, with standings tracked by wins and losses and often a playoff at the end.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches run stations for hitting, fielding, throwing and base running, rotating small groups so each player gets lots of repetitions.
Social or open play
A casual pickup game or open field session where players show up, split into teams and play without standings.
Make it memorable
Fun baseball event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Home Run Derby
Hitters get a set number of swings against a coach pitch, and fans vote on the best bat flip. A great opener before the main games.
Around the Horn Relay
Teams race to throw the ball around all four bases while a stopwatch runs. Fast, loud and easy for spectators to follow.
Sponsor a Strikeout
Supporters pledge a dollar amount for every strikeout pitchers throw during the event. Announce the running total over the speaker between innings.
Signed Bat Auction
Collect bats or balls signed by every team and local coaches, then auction them in the stands. Families love bidding on their own team's bat.
Throwback Uniform Day
Teams wear vintage style jerseys and high socks, and the announcer calls the game old school style. Fans dress up too for a prize.
Sponsor Speed Pitch Booth
A sponsor hosts a radar gun booth where fans see how fast they throw. Their logo goes on the leaderboard and the prize.
Run the Bases Kids
After the final game, kids line up to run the bases and high-five players at home plate. A classic memory for little fans.
Golden Glove Gag Award
A painted old glove goes to the best defensive play of the day, and a bent spoon goes to the funniest blooper. Both make great photos.

Tip: Book umpires early and set a time limit per game, since long innings are the usual reason a tournament schedule falls behind.
