History
Golf in Boulder began in 1914 on a nine-hole course with sand greens at Chautauqua Park. In 1933 the Boulder Country Club commissioned Willie Tucker to lay out a course at 57th and Arapahoe. It was built in 1938 with help from the Works Progress Administration and was first called the Boulder Municipal Sports Center. During World War II the front nine was closed so cattle could graze there. It became Flatirons Golf Course in 1986, when the City of Boulder began running it as a municipal course. It was first certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 2010 and has been recertified since.
The Course and Practice Facilities
- Driving range with 22 stations on an all-season mat, using limited-flight range balls
- 12,000-square-foot putting green and a chipping area, both free to use
