Step by step

Running a target shooting event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.

What it looks like

Colorado amateur shooting events take place at public and club ranges year round, with adult and junior shooters entering by skill class, under strict range safety rules.

Formats

Precision / Bullseye
Shooters fire at fixed paper targets from set distances in timed strings.
Steel Challenge
Shooters fire at a set of steel plates as fast as possible on each stage.
Action Pistol (USPSA)
Shooters move through stages with multiple targets and obstacles, firing on the move.
3-Gun / Multi-Gun
Shooters run stages using a rifle, a pistol and a third long gun.
Smallbore / Air Rifle
Shooters fire low-power rifles at small paper targets from standing, kneeling or prone.
Rimfire Challenge
A beginner-friendly speed event with small caliber rifles or pistols at steel plates.
Metallic Silhouette
Shooters knock down steel animal-shaped targets at different distances.
Long Range Precision Match
Shooters fire a set string at approved targets from the firing line, scored for tight groups. Every shot follows range officer commands and posted range rules.
Sponsor a Firing Lane
Businesses sponsor a lane with a banner and a named award, and their name is read at the safety brief. Clear visibility without touching range rules.
Top Shot Trophy and Plaque
The overall winner gets a trophy and their name on a range plaque for the year. Take the winners photo away from the firing line.
