Step by step
Running a curling event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Colorado curling is played at dedicated curling clubs and some ice rinks from fall through spring, with beginners, social teams and experienced club players.
Formats
- Bonspiel (Tournament)
- A curling tournament where teams play several games over a weekend, often in multiple events, with prizes for each event winner.
- Team (Rink of 4)
- Teams of four, a lead, second, vice and skip, each throw two stones per end.
- Round Robin + Playoffs
- Teams play each opponent in their group, then the top teams by record move into playoff games.
- Learn-to-Curl / Funspiel
- A beginner event where instructors teach basics, then teams play short friendly games with no pressure.
- Mixed Doubles
- Teams of one man and one woman, each throwing stones with one stone pre-placed per team each end.
- League
- Teams play weekly over a season, with standings by wins and often playoffs at the end.
- Button Draw Challenge
- Each player slides one stone to the center button, and the closest draw wins. Simple, tense and fun to watch from the warm room.
- Pledge Per End Won
- Supporters pledge a set amount for every end their team wins across the bonspiel. The total goes on the board after each draw.
- Broom Trophy and Handshake
- Winners get a painted broom trophy, and every game ends with the classic handshake tradition. Line up all teams on the ice for a group photo.
Build it
In the Organizer Dashboard, click Create event and pick curling and your format. Every tab, word and Start here guide then follows your sport.
Registration
Choose your team size and divisions, like open, men's and women's. In Registration, ask what you need from each entrant, like position and club, gym or team you represent.
Results
Open Brackets and schedule. Pick the division, pool play or a bracket, your sheets, the first game time and minutes per game. Each of your sheets gets its own phone link for scores, and every score updates the bracket for everyone. Tick Post on the event page so players follow it live. Curling scores go in end by end and add up automatically.
Event day
Teams check in and get sheet assignments, warm up with a few practice slides, play timed games, then winners are celebrated in the clubhouse.
