Step by step
Running an axe throwing event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Colorado axe throwing events happen at indoor throwing venues year round, with friends, coworkers and charity groups competing in casual brackets and weekly leagues.
Formats
- Singles Bracket
- Throwers go head to head in a bracket, each throwing a set number of axes at a wooden target.
- Doubles / Team
- Teams of two or more combine scores from each member's throws.
- Round Robin
- Every thrower or team plays each other in a group.
- Big Axe
- Throwers use a larger, two-handed axe thrown from a longer distance.
- Duals
- Two throwers stand side by side and throw at their own targets at the same time.
- Standard Hatchet
- The core format with an one-handed hatchet thrown at a target with scoring rings.
- League
- Throwers meet weekly over several weeks for matches, building standings that lead to a final playoff night.
- Bullseye Bracket
- Throwers face off head-to-head on standard targets in a bracket, with the bullseye worth the most. Coaches watch every lane and keep standard throwing rules.
- Sponsor a Lane
- Businesses sponsor a lane with a banner and a named bracket prize. Easy visibility in a space where crowds gather.
- Golden Axe Trophy
- The champion wins a gold painted axe mounted on a wood plaque, with names added each year. Take the photo in the lobby, away from the lanes.
