Step by step
Running an archery event in Colorado? Here's how to plan it, pick a format and run it on Colorado Under Par, start to finish.
What it looks like
Colorado archery events are held at club ranges, indoor lanes and foothill 3D courses, for youth through adult archers shooting recurve, compound or traditional bows, with indoor season in winter and outdoor shoots in summer.
Formats
- 3D Archery
- Archers walk a trail course and shoot foam animal targets at varied distances.
- Indoor Target (18m)
- Archers shoot at paper targets 18 meters away in timed ends of three arrows.
- Outdoor Target (720)
- Archers shoot 72 arrows at a set distance on an outdoor field, in ends of six.
- Vegas 300 Round
- An indoor round of 30 arrows at a three-spot target from 20 yards, ten points max each.
- Field Archery
- Archers move around a wooded course of paper targets at marked and varied distances, often uphill or downhill.
- Fun Shoot / Novelty
- Casual shoots with balloons, playing cards, moving targets or team games.
- Balloon Pop Target
- Attach balloons to target faces and give archers a set number of arrows to pop as many as possible. It is quick, colorful and easy to score.
- Buy an Extra Arrow
- Archers donate to shoot one bonus arrow during a scoring round. It raises money while keeping the competition fair and fun.
- Golden Arrow Award
- Present a painted golden arrow to the top scorer each year. Add their name to a plaque that hangs at the range.
