Venue Overview

Walnut Creek Golf Preserve is a public, 18-hole golf course in Westminster, Colorado, owned and operated by the City of Westminster. Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 1999 as Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor, Walnut Creek stretches across 215 acres of native prairie grasses and wetlands just south of Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, playing to a par of 72 at up to 7,563 yards with a course rating of 74.7 and a slope of 133 — one of the more demanding municipal layouts in the Denver metro.

About the Course

Hurdzan and Fry — the same design team behind the River Course at Keystone — routed Walnut Creek through the natural contours of prairie grassland and wetland terrain, preserving much of the site's native character rather than reshaping it. The result is a wide-open, wind-exposed test that plays firm and fast, with the course's demanding 74.7 rating reflecting a layout that rewards accuracy and course management as much as length. As one of Westminster's two municipal courses (alongside sister course Legacy Ridge), Walnut Creek gives the city a genuinely challenging public option to complement Legacy Ridge's more classic parkland routing.

Colorado's Home to the Scotty Cameron Showcase

Walnut Creek's golf shop is a standout amenity in its own right: it's Colorado's designated Scotty Cameron Showcase destination, stocking limited-edition Scotty Cameron putters and demo models alongside a full Titleist product lineup. The shop also hosts exclusive Titleist Custom Fitting Experience events throughout the season, giving golfers access to professional club fitting not commonly available at a municipal course.

  • Full-service pro shop, Colorado's Scotty Cameron Showcase destination
  • Titleist Custom Fitting Experience events

Lessons & Instruction

Golf instruction at Walnut Creek is provided through the City of Westminster's partnership with Trent Wearner Golf Academy — rated the only golf instruction establishment in Colorado named a Best Golf School in the U.S. by Golf Digest. As of 2026, coaches teaching regularly at Walnut Creek include:
  • Maggie Hartman, PGA — leads adult group clinics at Walnut Creek and Legacy Ridge
  • Travis Morton — coaches adult and group programs at Walnut Creek and Legacy Ridge
  • Dana Smith — coaches at Walnut Creek, Legacy Ridge, and Westminster's indoor training facilities
  • Chris Melendez and Erin Diegel — coach adult programs and golf schools based at Walnut Creek and the Embers Golf Center
Programs include Welcome2Golf beginner clinics, Operation 36 (which includes green fees for three 9-hole play days as part of the class), Scoring School intensives, and Short Game School. Contact the golf shop at (303) 469-2974 to schedule a lesson or ask about the current class schedule.

Tournaments & Events

Walnut Creek's demanding, wide-open layout and 215-acre footprint make it a strong host for tournaments, corporate outings, and group events looking for a genuine test of golf. Its shared Westminster municipal program with Legacy Ridge gives event organizers the flexibility to book either course, or both, for larger multi-course outings.

Planning Your Event Here

Walnut Creek's Hurdzan-Fry design, natural prairie and wetland setting, and Scotty Cameron Showcase pro shop make it a distinctive option for tournaments, corporate outings, and group events in the northwest Denver metro. Contact the golf shop to coordinate a booking. The course is located at 10555 Westmoor Dr, Westminster, CO 80021 (303-469-2974).

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are reviewed starting October 1, 2026. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.

Then we will be in touch.
