Walnut Creek Golf Preserve is a public, 18-hole golf course in Westminster, Colorado, owned and operated by the City of Westminster. Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 1999 as Heritage Golf Course at Westmoor, Walnut Creek stretches across 215 acres of native prairie grasses and wetlands just south of Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, playing to a par of 72 at up to 7,563 yards with a course rating of 74.7 and a slope of 133, one of the more demanding municipal layouts in the Denver metro.
About the Course
Hurdzan and Fry, the same design team behind the River Course at Keystone, routed Walnut Creek through the natural contours of prairie grassland and wetland terrain, preserving much of the site’s native character rather than reshaping it. The result is a wide-open, wind-exposed test that plays firm and fast, with the course’s demanding 74.7 rating reflecting a layout that rewards accuracy and course management as much as length. As one of Westminster’s two municipal courses (alongside sister course Legacy Ridge), Walnut Creek gives the city a genuinely challenging public option to complement Legacy Ridge’s more classic parkland routing.
