Venue Overview

Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball sits at 2500 Pine Grove Rd near the base of the ski mountain. The city owns the land; the Court Sports for Life Foundation, a 501(c)(3), runs the complex under a long-term lease. You may still see the legacy name, The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs. The main line is (970) 879-8400. In 2025 it earned USTA Premier Facility status for the fourth straight year and a USTA Outstanding Facilities Award.

About the Courts

The operator publishes the same figures consistently across three of its own pages: six outdoor cushioned hard tennis courts, six cushioned indoor hard tennis courts, twelve cushioned indoor pickleball courts inside a 35,000 square foot Pickleball Center, and eight outdoor hard pickleball courts. That is 12 tennis and 20 pickleball courts. Neither indoor space is a bubble today. The original 1991 air-inflated dome was replaced in 2005-06 with a rigid frame-and-fabric structure, and the Pickleball Center is a separate steel building. Outdoor courts were rebuilt in post-tensioned concrete with a gel coat in 2022, and indoor tennis received indirect LED lighting in 2025. Outdoor court lighting is not published, and the crowd-sourced claim that these are asphalt courts contradicts the operator.

A Purpose-Built Pickleball Center

Very few public facilities in Colorado have put up a dedicated building for pickleball. Steamboat did. Phase 2 ran September 2023 to July 2024, cost roughly $5 million, and produced a steel building housing twelve cushioned indoor courts. More than 450 donors raised $7.6 million toward the $12.7 million two-phase cost. The Tennis Center then closed July through November 2025 for a roughly $2.8 million renovation and reopened at about 75 percent complete.

Lessons & Instruction

Tennis programming covers adult clinics and drills, private instruction, Flex Leagues through the USTA Flex App, Permanent Court Time as a prepaid weekly seasonal slot, junior programs at all ages, and holiday camps. S-E-R-V-E-S provides free tennis and life-skills lessons for underserved kids, and a Youth Grant Program awards scholarships of up to $750. Pickleball has free weekly New Player Clinics, tiered drills from Advanced Novice through Tournament Player, and nine weekly Open Play sessions by skill level. Jason Scicchitano is Director of Tennis, PTR certified and a PPR certified pickleball coach. Tennis professionals are Emilie Rogers, Stevie Ybarra, Jessica Powell, Lynne Meyers, Karen Connell, Monique Ybarra and Patty Kreutz. Jayson Harris is Director of Pickleball, with pickleball professionals Dustin Spalding, Barbara Robinson, Sheila Farny, Jill Starr and Jonell Loeppert.

Leagues & Events

The 2026 tennis calendar includes the Steamboat Adult 40+ and 55+ Tournament on September 12 and 13 and the Steamboat NTRP Mini Fall Edition on October 2 through 4, both USTA-sanctioned, plus the Punk and Relic Tournament on October 24 and the Steamboat L6 Junior Winter Showcase on November 28. Pickleball brings the Mountain Town Classic, August 7 through 9, Hot Summer Nights on August 7 and September 4, and the Steamboat Pickleball Charity Shootout in November. The annual Center Court SMASH is a fundraising gala, not a tournament.

This is a public, pay-per-court hourly facility with rates in local and visitor tiers, prepaid punch passes, and a 50 percent discount on court time and instruction for local nonprofits and schools. Reservations run through CourtReserve under organization ID 9747 and are required; cancellations need 24 hours notice or the full charge applies. The two mezzanines give real spectator capacity, though the venue's own materials list conflicting private event capacities, so confirm directly.
