Venue Overview

Springfield Municipal Golf Course is a 9-hole public golf course in Springfield, Colorado, located in the far southeastern corner of the state near the Oklahoma and Kansas borders. Designed by J.R. Hatcher and dating back to 1945, the course plays 3,433 yards to a par of 36, making it one of the longer-established municipal courses on Colorado’s southeastern plains.

About the Course

Springfield Municipal Golf Course has served the small community of Springfield and surrounding Baca County for more than three-quarters of a century, giving golfers in one of Colorado’s most remote corners a dependable place to play close to home. Its location near the tri-state meeting point of Colorado, Oklahoma, and Kansas puts it far from the state’s major population centers, but that isolation has helped preserve its character as a genuine small-town municipal course. J.R. Hatcher’s original routing has stood the test of time, remaining the community’s golf home for generations of local families.

Reaching Springfield takes some effort, with golfers typically traveling Highway 287 or Highway 160 through the far southeastern corner of the state. That remoteness is part of what has kept the course such a genuine community fixture, largely unchanged and still serving the same purpose it has for generations: giving Baca County residents an affordable, accessible place to play golf.

Lessons & Instruction

After a thorough search of available records, including PGA of America’s member directory, no current named instructor could be verified for this facility. Golfers seeking formal lessons should plan to arrange instruction at a nearby regional facility, though the course’s small-town, community-oriented atmosphere still makes it a welcoming place to play and learn the game.
