Venue Overview

Prairie Pines Golf Club is a semi-private 9-hole golf course in Burlington, Colorado, near the Kansas border on the far eastern edge of the state. Opened in 1971, the course plays 2,906 yards from the back tees with a slope rating of 106, featuring bent grass greens, buffalo grass fairways, water hazards, and sand bunkers across its layout.

About the Course

Prairie Pines Golf Club has served as Kit Carson County’s golf destination for more than five decades, offering a semi-private club experience with the accessibility of a public course. The layout incorporates meaningful water hazards and sand bunkering, giving golfers on this stretch of the Eastern Plains a course with more strategic variety than its flat prairie setting might initially suggest. Its buffalo grass fairways add a distinctive regional character shared by only a handful of other courses in this part of Colorado.

Located just off the interstate corridor near the Kansas border, Prairie Pines is a natural stop for golfers traveling through eastern Colorado, offering a full 9-hole round without straying far from the highway. The club’s longevity, having opened its doors back in 1971, speaks to its role as a durable community fixture for Burlington and the surrounding ranching and farming communities.

Practice Facilities

Prairie Pines Golf Club offers a putting green for golfers to warm up before their round. Rental clubs are available on site, making the course an accessible option for visitors passing through Burlington without their own equipment.

Dining and Amenities

Prairie Pines Golf Club offers a bar and banquet hall on site, making it a practical choice for golfers looking to extend their day beyond the course itself. The club welcomes carts and walking golfers alike, and its semi-private status means the course stays accessible to the public while maintaining a club atmosphere for its members. Rental clubs are available for visiting golfers, and the club accepts credit cards for green fees and pro shop purchases.

Lessons & Instruction

Prairie Pines Golf Club does not currently have a golf professional on site. After a thorough search of available records, including PGA of America’s member directory, no current named instructor could be verified for this facility. Golfers seeking formal lessons should plan to arrange instruction at a nearby regional facility, though the club’s welcoming atmosphere still makes it a good place for newer golfers to play.

Tournaments & Events

Prairie Pines Golf Club hosts outings and welcomes group events throughout its season, serving as a central gathering point for golfers throughout Kit Carson County and the surrounding Eastern Plains region. Its banquet hall and bar make it well equipped to host both the round and the celebration afterward.
