Venue Overview

Set at 9,680 feet in the open spaces of the Arkansas River Valley near the river's headwaters, Mount Massive Golf Course holds the distinction of being North America's highest golf course. Ringed by the tallest mountains in Colorado, including its namesake Mount Massive, and surrounded by ranchland and forest, the course offers a truly spectacular high-altitude setting unlike anywhere else in the state. Just outside historic Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the country, it's a bucket-list stop for golfers looking to experience the game at extreme elevation. Few rounds anywhere combine mining-era history, big-sky mountain scenery, and genuine golf novelty quite like a day at Mount Massive.

About the Course

Mount Massive's 9-hole layout takes full advantage of its dramatic high-altitude setting, with sweeping views of the Sawatch Range and the Arkansas River headwaters framing nearly every hole. The thin mountain air at nearly two miles above sea level sends the ball noticeably farther than at lower elevations, giving golfers a distinctive experience found at very few courses anywhere in the world. The open ranchland and forest surroundings give the course a rugged, high-country character that matches the mining-town history of Leadville itself. Golfers can play the front nine and, with a second set of tee boxes, extend their round for a full 18 holes of high-altitude golf without leaving the property. The layout rewards accurate positioning off the tee as much as raw distance, with the valley's open terrain putting a premium on club selection and wind awareness at elevation.

Practice Facilities

Golfers can warm up on Mount Massive's driving range before heading out, getting a feel for how the thin mountain air affects ball flight before their round. The range and practice areas make it easy to dial in distances that play differently than at sea level, which matters more here than almost anywhere else in Colorado given the course's extreme altitude. Taking a few extra minutes on the range to recalibrate yardages is well worth it before playing a full round.

Dining and Amenities

The Grill at Mount Massive Golf Course serves golfers on-site, giving players a place to refuel before or after a round at North America's highest golf course. The pro shop stocks equipment and apparel, and the club offers both daily rates and membership options, along with a 5 County and Military discount program for area residents and service members. Tee times can be booked online in advance, making it easy to plan a round around a Leadville visit or a broader trip through the Arkansas River Valley and the surrounding high country.

Lessons & Instruction

Mount Massive Golf Course is a community-run facility without a dedicated teaching professional on staff. Golfers looking for lessons in the area are encouraged to contact the pro shop directly for current recommendations and regional instruction options.

Tournaments & Events

Mount Massive hosts golf events throughout the season, with a published events calendar covering tournaments and gatherings for the Leadville golf community. As North America's highest golf course, Mount Massive draws golfers from well beyond Lake County who want to add this distinctive round to their golf résumé, making its events a magnet for visiting golfers as well as locals. The short, high-altitude season adds a sense of occasion to summer tournaments here, with events often drawing a mix of regular members, Leadville visitors, and golfers chasing the novelty of playing at nearly 9,700 feet.

Planning Your Event Here

With a genuinely unique claim to fame as the highest golf course in North America, Mount Massive Golf Course makes for a memorable tournament or group outing destination. The pro shop staff can help arrange tee time blocks and course access for an event, and the course's only-in-Leadville novelty gives any outing a story to tell long after the round is over. Corporate outings, charity scrambles, and club championships all benefit from the built-in talking point of playing at record elevation, and the surrounding Arkansas River Valley scenery makes for a memorable backdrop for photos and awards after the round.

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are reviewed starting October 1, 2026. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.
