Venue Overview

The River Course at Keystone is a public, 18-hole mountain golf course in Keystone, Colorado, set at roughly 9,280 feet in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Designed by architects Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 2000, the River Course is one of two championship layouts at Keystone Resort, alongside the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed Keystone Ranch Golf Course. Playing a par 71 across a par-35 front nine that follows the path of the Snake River and a par-36 back nine that winds through lodgepole pine forest, the River Course delivers dramatic elevation change and sweeping mountain views that few Colorado courses can match.

About the Course

The River Course's front nine tracks the Snake River through open meadow terrain, while the back nine climbs into a dense lodgepole pine forest, giving the course two distinct playing environments within a single round. Yardage ranges from roughly 4,750 to 6,886 yards across six sets of tees, keeping the course accessible to a wide range of skill levels despite its high-altitude, high-drama layout. The course's signature moment comes at the par-5 16th hole, where golfers tee off nearly 200 feet above the green — a 194-foot elevation drop — with sweeping views of the Continental Divide, Soda Creek Valley, and Lake Dillon. The 18th hole closes the round with its own postcard views of Lake Dillon.

A High-Altitude, Environmentally Minded Design

At roughly 9,280 feet, the River Course is among the highest-elevation golf courses in Colorado, and its Hurdzan-Fry design was built with a deliberate environmental sensitivity to the surrounding wetlands and the Snake River corridor. The course's dramatic elevation shots — none more so than the 16th hole's 194-foot drop — take full advantage of the mountain terrain rather than fighting it, giving golfers a distinctly different experience than a typical front-range layout. Together with its sister course, Keystone Ranch — a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design routed across a historic early-1900s ranching homestead with a nine-acre lake — the River Course helps make Keystone Resort a 36-hole summer golf destination just off I-70.

Tournaments & Events

The River Course's dramatic elevation changes and mountain scenery make it a memorable host for tournaments, corporate outings, and group golf events, particularly for groups looking to pair golf with a Rocky Mountain resort setting. Keystone Resort's broader golf program — including the neighboring Keystone Ranch course, site of the Colorado Golf Association's 2017 Mid-Amateur Championship — gives event organizers flexibility to book single-course rounds or combine both courses for larger groups.

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are reviewed starting October 1, 2026. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.
