Carved out of the woods at 8,420 feet on the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park, this Dick Phelps design pairs rolling fairways and subtle greens with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the Never Summer Range, and a supporting cast of moose, elk, deer, and fox that often wander the course. About the Course
Operated by the Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District, Grand Lake Golf Course plays as an 18-hole, par-70 championship course that first opened in 1964. Designed by Colorado architect Dick Phelps and carved from the surrounding lodgepole pines and aspens, it stretches to 6,570 yards from the back tees, with multiple tee sets that keep the high-country challenge fair for every level of player.

The Setting

The thin alpine air sends the ball noticeably farther, while elevated tees and rolling terrain, mostly gentle on the front nine and more dramatic on the back, keep the round visually engaging without too many blind shots.
