Venue Overview

Grand Lake Golf Course is a public, 18-hole championship mountain course in Grand Lake, Colorado, often called the "Crown Jewel of Mountain Courses" for good reason. Carved out of the woods at 8,420 feet on the doorstep of Rocky Mountain National Park, this Dick Phelps design pairs rolling fairways and subtle greens with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the Never Summer Range, and a supporting cast of moose, elk, deer, and fox that often wander the course. One of Colorado's original and premier mountain courses, Grand Lake offers a beautifully maintained, genuinely memorable setting for tournaments, outings, and group play.

About the Course

Operated by the Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District, Grand Lake Golf Course plays as an 18-hole, par-70 championship course that first opened in 1964. Designed by Colorado architect Dick Phelps and carved from the surrounding lodgepole pines and aspens, it stretches to 6,570 yards from the back tees, with multiple tee sets that keep the high-country challenge fair for every level of player. Course features: 18-hole, par-70 championship mountain course 6,570 yards from the back tees, with multiple tee sets Designed by Colorado architect Dick Phelps, opened in 1964 Set at 8,420 feet, bordering Rocky Mountain National Park Elevated tee boxes, rolling fairways, and subtle, manicured greens Framed by lodgepole pines, aspens, and native flora Panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and the Never Summer Range Wildlife including moose, elk, deer, and fox often seen during a round Driving range, putting green, and a well-stocked pro shop

The Setting

The setting is what makes Grand Lake unforgettable. At 8,420 feet, it is among the highest courses in the state, and its position on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park delivers panoramic mountain views from nearly every hole. The thin alpine air sends the ball noticeably farther, while elevated tees and rolling terrain, mostly gentle on the front nine and more dramatic on the back, keep the round visually engaging without too many blind shots. Lodgepole pines, aspens, and native wildflowers frame the holes, and it is not unusual to share the course with a curious moose, elk, or fox. It is classic Rocky Mountain golf at its finest.

Practice Facilities & Amenities

Grand Lake offers a complete setup for a high-country round: Driving range, often with practice balls included in the green fee Practice putting green Well-stocked pro shop with clubs, balls, apparel, and accessories Rental clubs and golf cars Food and beverage service, with a dining spot offering Never Summer Range views

Lessons & Instruction

Lessons at Grand Lake are available with PGA Professional Don Campbell and instructor Ted Roberts. Both work with golfers visiting this scenic mountain course, offering individual instruction through the pro shop. (Instructors as of 2026.)

Tournaments & Events

Grand Lake Golf Course is a memorable host for golf tournaments and group events, whether for a business, organization, or group of friends. Its championship layout, unbeatable mountain scenery, and on-site dining make it a standout setting for special events of all kinds. Event types hosted: Charity and nonprofit fundraising tournaments Corporate and group outings Competitive and club events Special events and gatherings Contact the course to inquire about availability and group arrangements for your next event.

Beyond Golf: Year-Round Recreation

Grand Lake Golf Course is part of the Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District, a multi-sport hub with plenty to offer beyond the fairways: Year-round adult pickleball and summer tennis 35 km of Nordic ski, snowshoe, and dog-friendly winter terrain on the course Miles of mountain biking, hiking, and dog-friendly trails A dining venue with panoramic Never Summer Range views, ideal for special events

Planning Your Event Here

Grand Lake works well for organizers seeking a true mountain destination with scenery that makes the day, plus the value that comes with a district-run public course. Keep in mind golf is seasonal at this elevation, with a shorter high-country season, so prime summer dates fill early. Event availability and arrangements are coordinated directly with the Grand Lake golf staff and are subject to season and conditions.

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are reviewed starting October 1, 2026. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.
