Venue Overview

The Elliott Tennis Center is Colorado Mesa University's outdoor tennis home at 1021 Orchard Ave in Grand Junction. The university's main line is 970.248.1020. The center as it stands today came out of a summer 2010 rebuild that took the site from eight courts to nine. Its primary function is collegiate: it hosts regular-season duals for CMU's men's and women's programs. The original build year and site acreage are not published. This is not a membership club or a public parks facility, and the university publishes very little about day-to-day public use.

About the Courts

Nine outdoor courts, officially. They are grouped in pairs with a walking path between each set, which makes the complex easy to move through during a dual match. The center has professional tennis lights, per the university, and each court has spectator seating, though seating capacity is not published. Surface material is not published. Whether any of the courts carry pickleball lines is also not published. There is no indoor tennis anywhere on campus. The Hamilton Recreation Center has two championship racquetball and squash courts, a recreation gym, an indoor track and a natatorium, but no indoor tennis courts.

Lessons & Instruction

CMU does not publish a community teaching program at Elliott. The one coach on record is Dan MacDonald, Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach since 2006, a 12-time RMAC Coach of the Year and the 2009 ITA Women's Coach of the Year. It is important to be clear about his role: he coaches the collegiate teams. He is not published as a community teaching professional taking lessons at this facility. No assistant coach is published. If you are looking for instruction in Grand Junction, note that a separate member-owned facility, the Junction Indoor Tennis Center at 535 25 1/2 Rd, lists Dan MacDonald as an instructor. That club is not part of CMU.

Leagues & Events

Both CMU tennis programs have competed in the PacWest since 2021 and rejoin as affiliates for the 2026-27 season, and Elliott hosts their regular-season duals. The center also hosts the CMU Doubles Showdown. For anything beyond the collegiate schedule, the university publishes no league or open-play calendar. Across town, the Junction Indoor Tennis Center runs a monthly Bubble Cup and books through CourtReserve, but again, it is a separate operation with no connection to the university beyond a shared instructor.
