Every way to run a bowling event
Charity and amateur bowling in Colorado happens year round at local bowling centers, with teams of coworkers, families and leagues bowling two or three games.
9-Pin No-Tap
Knocking down nine pins on the first ball counts as a strike. Scores run high and it is fun for casual bowlers.
Bowl-a-Thon (Pledge)
Bowlers collect pledges from donors, often per pin or as a flat gift, then bowl a set number of games. Prizes go to top fundraisers and scores.
Team (4-5 Bowlers)
Teams of four or five bowl the same games and add their scores together. Highest team total, sometimes with handicap, wins.
Doubles
Two bowlers combine their scores over a set number of games. Highest pair total wins, often with handicap.
Singles
Each bowler competes alone over several games. Highest total pinfall, scratch or with handicap, wins.
Scotch Doubles
Two partners alternate shots in each frame on one shared game. Highest team score wins.
Baker Format
Team members take turns bowling frames of one shared game, so each bowler rolls a frame and passes to the next. Highest team game wins.
League
Teams bowl weekly on the same night through a season, with points per game and standings leading to a season champion.
Clinic, camp or lessons
A coach covers stance, approach, release and spare shooting on a few lanes, giving each bowler feedback and drills.
Social or open play
Casual bowling with friends or coworkers, often with food and music, and no official scoring or prizes.
Make it memorable
Fun bowling event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Opposite Hand Frame
Everyone bowls one frame with their non dominant hand, and the best score wins a prize. It levels the field and gets big laughs.
Red Pin Bonus
When a red head pin shows up, a strike wins a prize. The surprise keeps every lane watching and cheering.
Pledge Per Pin
Donors pledge a small amount for every pin a bowler knocks down. Bowlers collect pledges ahead of time and play for every last pin.
Mystery Frame Pot
Bowlers chip in, then a random frame is drawn after the game. Best score in it splits the pot with the cause. A Colorado raffle license may be needed.
Retro Bowling Shirt Night
Teams wear classic button up bowling shirts with their team names on the back. Best dressed team wins a prize during the awards.
Sponsor a Lane
A business sponsors a lane with a sign and shout outs throughout the event. Bowlers on that lane stop for a quick photo with the sign.
Bumper Lane Kids Game
Set aside a lane with bumpers and ramps for kids. They bowl their own game while parents compete, and everyone gets a prize.
Gutter Ball Award
The bowler with the most gutter balls wins a goofy gag trophy. It is always the most laughed at award of the night.
