Every way to run a badminton event
Colorado badminton events run in school gyms, rec centers and dedicated club courts year round, often drawing families, students and adult club players at all levels.
Singles
One player per side plays games to 21 points with rally scoring, usually best of three. Group players by skill level for close matches.
Doubles
Two players per side play to 21 points with rally scoring, best of three games. Partners sign up together or are paired.
Mixed Doubles
Teams of one man and one woman play doubles to 21 points, best of three. Set clear partner rules at sign-up.
Round Robin
Everyone in a group plays each other once. Rank by wins, then point difference, and top players advance or win.
Single Elimination
A bracket where one match loss ends your event. Winners advance until one player or pair is champion.
Team Event
Clubs or groups field a team that plays several singles and doubles matches against another team. The team winning most matches wins the tie.
League
Players or teams play weekly matches over a season, with standings and an end of season playoff.
Clinic, camp or lessons
Coaches teach grips, footwork, clears, drops and serves, then play drills and games. Shuttles and rackets are often provided.
Social or open play
Drop-in play where people rotate onto courts with new partners. No standings, just friendly games.
Make it memorable
Fun badminton event ideas
Side contests, fundraisers and traditions that people remember as much as the results.
Smash Speed Contest
Players take a few smashes at a target, judged by accuracy or measured by a radar if available. Fastest or most accurate wins.
Shuttle Target Challenge
Place hoops or buckets on the court and have players serve into them. Points for each hit add up to a prize.
Buy a Bonus Serve
Players donate for one extra serve in a skill challenge. It raises money and gives everyone another chance to win.
Sponsor a Court
Businesses sponsor each court with a banner and announcements before every match. Players and fans see them all day.
Glow Badminton Night
Turn the lights down and use glow shuttles and neon gear for a fun night round. It is a memorable twist on a classic game.
Sponsored Rally Count
A sponsor donates for every shot in the longest rally of the day. Fans count out loud and cheer each one.
Family Doubles Round
Parent and child pairs play short, friendly matches before the finals. Everyone gets a ribbon and a family photo.
Feather Crown Award
Crown the singles and doubles champions with a feather crown. Add a gag prize for the longest rally that ended in laughter.
