Venue Overview

Centennial Park is a 7.2-acre City of Salida park at 410 W Rainbow Blvd, and the courts there, locally called Centennial Courts, sit directly next to the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center, one of the largest indoor hot springs pools in the country, built by the WPA in 1937. A skatepark, pump track, splash pad and sand volleyball courts share the same site. It is a genuinely good combination: play in the morning, soak in the afternoon.

About the Courts

Eight pickleball courts, laid out on two permanently dual-striped tennis courts. Worth flagging, because the City's own amenities table undercounts this: the park page lists two tennis courts and one pickleball court, singular. The City's own 2018 press release announced eight, the GOCO grant that funded the restriping describes accommodating both sports, and the Peak to Peak schedule page the City itself links to refers to Challenge Courts 5, 6, 7 and 8. Eight is the real number. The courts are lighted, with fencing, windscreens, restrooms, drinking fountains and a paved parking lot, all part of the 2018 build. Court hours were published at opening as 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, though that figure dates to 2018.

Who Gets the Court, and When

Salida publishes explicit priority rules for the shared surface, and they are worth reading before you show up. During pickleball-priority times, tennis players must cede the courts if pickleball players arrive. During tennis-priority times, which are April, May, September and October, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, pickleball players must cede if tennis players arrive.

The adjacent Aquatic Center adds a 25-meter six-lane lap pool, leisure pool, private soaking pools, a weekend diving board, locker rooms with rentable lockers, and concessions at the front desk. There is no pro shop or locker room at the courts themselves.

Lessons & Instruction

Programming runs through Peak to Peak Pickleball Club, a 501(c)(3) partnered with the City, and it is unusually deep for a town this size. Open play draws players most mornings around 8:30 on a first-come basis, with Challenge Courts 5 through 8 running 9:00 AM to noon. Recurring series include Tenderfoot Tuesdays and Ladies Only Play, all levels, Wednesdays 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Clinics cover Agility and Paddle Control, The First Four Shots, Salida Skills and Drills, and Novice and Beginner Guided Play. For juniors, the City publishes a youth pickleball lesson program here for ages 8 to 12, taught by Peak to Peak volunteers on Monday afternoons. No individual coaches are named.

Leagues & Events

Rally in the Valley is the annual Peak to Peak tournament, running September 4 to 6, 2026 at Centennial Park Courts, with an associated dinner at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Note the seasonal rhythm: from September through April there is no official outdoor schedule, and club play migrates indoors to the Chaffee County Fairgrounds from November through May. The courts themselves are not closed in winter, only unscheduled, and outdoor play happens when weather allows.

Eight lighted courts, a rentable pavilion with grills, and an aquatic center next door make this a strong host for a summer or early-fall tournament with a social component built in. Play is free and first-come, first-served with no reservation system; organized play, clinics and lessons take priority per the published calendar.
