Venue Overview

Perched atop the mesas on the outskirts of Rangely, Cedar Ridges Golf Course delivers a genuinely unexpected round of golf in the far northwest corner of Colorado. Run by the Western Rio Blanco Recreation and Park District, this 9-hole, par-36 course stretches 3,433 yards across rolling hills, mature turf, and dramatic views of the Book Cliffs. It’s a hidden gem that rewards the drive out to this remote stretch of the Western Slope with a well-maintained, scenic track that few visiting golfers expect to find here. Rangely itself sits along the scenic Dinosaur Diamond byway near the Colorado-Utah border, and the golf course is one of the town’s signature recreational attractions alongside its outdoor museum and reservoir.

About the Course

Designed by noted architect Frank Hummel, who has designed and built more than 200 courses across the United States, Cedar Ridges makes full use of its dramatic mesa-top setting. The course features mounds marking safe landing areas, multiple tee boxes on every hole, large rolling greens, water and sand traps, and mature trees throughout. With at least three tee boxes per hole and varied pin placements, Cedar Ridges is challenging enough to test experienced golfers while remaining approachable for newer players working on their game. The course today is well established, with mature turf and trees that have matured into a layout that feels far more developed than a typical small-town 9-hole track.
