Venue Overview
Shining Mountain Golf Course is a public, 18-hole golf course in Woodland Park, Colorado, playing at 8,250 feet above sea level — the only golf course in Teller County and one of the highest-elevation courses anywhere in the state. Designed by noted architect John Harbottle III and opened in 1995, the course plays to a par of 70 across 6,465 yards, with a course rating of 70.6 and a slope of 140, set against towering pines and sweeping views of Pikes Peak.About the Course
Shining Mountain's history is as layered as the terrain it sits on. The property first opened for limited play at the end of 1994 as the Woodland Park Fujiki Golf and Country Club, developed by Japanese investor Hideaki Fujiki, who ran a wedding and travel business and envisioned the mountain course as a destination for hosting elaborate weddings for clients visiting the United States. In 2000, the course was sold to John Golden, who renamed it Shining Mountain after the Ute name for the nearby mountain. Today, dramatic elevation changes, alpine air, and panoramic Pikes Peak views make it both a bucket-list destination for visiting golfers and a cherished home course for the local Teller County community.- Public, 18-hole course designed by John Harbottle III, opened in 1995

A John Harbottle III Design
Shining Mountain carries the design pedigree of John Harbottle III, one of the most respected golf course architects of his generation. A University of Washington-trained landscape architect, Harbottle went to work for Pete Dye in 1984 and spent significant time studying the great links courses of Scotland and Ireland, developing a design philosophy grounded in playability and environmental sensitivity. He went on to design acclaimed layouts including the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain in Washington and the Golf Club at Genoa Lakes in Nevada, and remodeled the famed North Course at Los Angeles Country Club. Elected to full membership in the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1996, Harbottle brought that same philosophy to Shining Mountain, routing the course to work with the mountain's natural elevation changes rather than against them. Now a City of Woodland Park Municipal Course
In October 2025, the City of Woodland Park completed a landmark purchase of the Shining Mountain property, acquiring roughly 360 acres — including the 18-hole golf course, a 10,000-square-foot event center, and adjoining open space — in a deal valued at nearly $11.9 million. As of 2026, Shining Mountain now operates as a municipal course under the City of Woodland Park, securing its future as a permanent community asset and the only golf course serving Teller County.Practice Facilities & Amenities
