Venue Overview

Rio Grande Club sits at the base of Wolf Creek Ski Area in South Fork, Colorado, where an 18-hole championship golf course plays across elevations between 8,100 and 8,560 feet along the banks of the Rio Grande. Opened for play in 2002 and ranked among Golf Digest’s “Best New Upscale Public Courses,” Rio Grande Club offers both golf and dining open to the public, along with membership options for those who want a home course in the San Luis Valley. Just 20 miles east of the Continental Divide and Wolf Creek Ski Area, it’s one of the most scenic rounds in southern Colorado, combining championship-caliber golf with resort-level dining and amenities in a single destination.

About the Course

Rio Grande Club’s par-72 championship layout offers five sets of tees ranging from 3,458 yards to 7,053 yards, making the course approachable for golfers of every skill level. The front nine winds through wetlands along the Rio Grande, while the back nine climbs into forested terrain marked by rock formations and dramatic elevation change, with views stretching toward Alder Creek and the Rio Grande National Forest. Golfing at 8,500 feet adds noticeable distance to every shot, giving the course a character that rewards course management as much as raw power. The variety between the river-hugging front nine and the more rugged, elevated back nine gives Rio Grande Club a two-sided personality that keeps golfers coming back for repeat rounds.

Practice Facilities

Golfers can warm up before their round on Rio Grande Club’s practice facilities, dialing in distances that play differently at elevation before heading to the first tee. The golf shop staff are on hand to help with equipment, tee time questions, and advice on how the course’s elevation change affects club selection across the round.

Dining and Amenities

Timbers Restaurant & Big River Grille is open to the public and serves scratch-made food, including hand-cut Angus steaks, with views of South Fork, the surrounding Rockies, and the 18th hole. Weekly specials include Taco Tuesdays, seasonal $10 Burger Thursdays, and Smoked Texas BBQ on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with daily Happy Hour from 4 to 6 p.m. and special appetizers on Fridays. The full bar offers premium liquors and a wide selection of beer and wine. Beyond golf and dining, Rio Grande Club offers fishing, a pool, wellness facilities, tennis and pickleball courts, and a golf simulator, along with membership options for those who want fuller access to the resort’s amenities.
