Venue Overview

The Golf Club at Bear Dance is a public, 18-hole championship golf course in Larkspur, Colorado, designed by Jim Engh and opened in 2002. Set across 753 acres of mountainous terrain at an average elevation of 6,800 feet, Bear Dance winds through mature Ponderosa pines, oak-lined ridges, and native grass valleys, offering sweeping views of the Front Range. The course has been voted the Best Denver-area Public Golf Course every year from 2014 through 2025, and it serves as home to the Colorado Section of the PGA of America.

About the Course

Jim Engh routed Bear Dance so that no two fairways run contiguous to one another, a signature design choice that gives every hole a sense of privacy and seclusion rarely found on a public course. The result plays to a par of 72 across 7,726 yards from five sets of tees, framed by flashing white sand bunkers, striking water features, and intricate greens throughout the round. That combination of Engh’s bold, secluded routing and Bear Dance’s high-elevation mountain setting has made it a perennial favorite among Colorado golfers, backed up by more than a decade of consecutive Best Denver-area Public Golf Course honors.

A Course Built for Privacy and Seclusion

Jim Engh’s decision to route Bear Dance without contiguous fairways is a defining design signature, golfers rarely see another hole from the one they’re playing, giving the course a rare sense of solitude for a public facility. That approach, paired with the property’s 753 mountainous acres and 6,800-foot average elevation, has kept Bear Dance at the top of Colorado’s public course rankings for over a decade running. As home to the Colorado Section of the PGA of America, Bear Dance also carries an institutional weight in the state’s golf community that few public courses can match.
