Planning a race at City Park? Below you will find park details, the events held here, and upcoming events. Reserve the City Park Pavilion through Denver Parks →

Venue Overview

City Park is Denver’s largest park at about 330 acres, bounded by York Street, 17th Avenue, Colorado Boulevard and 23rd Avenue just east of downtown. It is one of the most popular running race and 5K venues in Denver: park roads and paths loop past Ferril Lake, the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Races run here through the year, from Halloween and Thanksgiving runs to charity 5Ks, and the historic pavilion on Ferril Lake gives organizers a natural start, finish and gathering point.

About the Park

  • About 330 acres, the largest park in Denver
  • Ferril Lake, home of the Prismatic Fountain (1908), and Duck Lake
  • Historic City Park Pavilion on Ferril Lake, rented for events through Denver Parks and Recreation
  • Paddle boat rentals on the lake, including pelican and duck novelty boats
  • Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science inside the park
  • City Park Golf Course immediately to the north
  • Managed by Denver Parks and Recreation

History

Colorado’s 1878 state legislation allowed Denver to acquire land for parks, and construction of City Park began in 1886. The Spanish-style boat pavilion was designed by architects John Humphreys and William Fisher, and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science opened its first wing to the public in 1908. City Park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1986, as part of the Denver Park and Parkway System.

The Course and Trails

Race courses at City Park use the park’s roads and paths, looping around Ferril Lake and past the zoo and museum. Exact routes vary by race, so check each organizer’s course map.

Apply for Event Management

Event Management Application (2027)
CUP manages 10 sporting events per season, and that is the cap.
Applications for the 2027 season are open now. Returning clients confirm their dates first, then remaining slots go to new clients. This is an application, not a booking, and it takes about 6 minutes.

Your organization

Who is hosting, and how we reach you.

Beneficiary

Only if the event raises money for a cause.

Your sporting event

The basics we need to judge fit.

Out-of-state note: our standard pricing covers events held in Colorado. Events outside Colorado are quoted individually with travel and on-site costs included.
Worth knowing before you submit: our fully-managed service starts at 100 people on site. Below that the economics do not work for either of us, so this is likely not a fit. You can still apply, and you can always list your sporting event on the CUP calendar instead.
This one gets a custom quote. Our standard service model covers single-day events with 100 to 160 people on site, including vendors. Larger fields and multi-day events still work, we just scope them and send a custom quote instead of a standard price.

What success looks like

So we can tell you straight whether we are the right team.

Budget and timing

Fully-managed service is a real line item. Straight answers save us both time.

A CUP engagement runs roughly 150 to 200 hours of planning, design, marketing and coordination, handled by one team from the first call to the final award. Applications need a real budget line for professional management, separate from venue, food and prizes.
Worth knowing before you submit: a fully-managed engagement sits above this range, so this is likely not a fit for 2027. You are welcome to apply anyway. If self-serve is the better move right now, you can list your sporting event and add promotion here: list your event.

Then we will be in touch.
